Jharkhand Polls: Women Outnumber Men And Overall Turnout in Phase One
The total women voter turnout in the first phase election in Jharkhand stood at 69.

Of the 43 assembly seats that went to polls this week under the first phase election in Jharkhand, 37 recorded higher women turnout, the data shows.
“A voter turnout of 66.
65% has been recorded across 43 Assembly Constituencies (ACs) in phase-1 of Jharkhand Assembly Elections 2024, surpassing the turnout by 2.
75 percentage points in these 43 ACs in 2019 assembly elections,” the statement from the ECI said.
Women voters participated enthusiastically, surpassing the overall male turnout by 4.
8 percentage points, underscoring their increasing involvement in shaping the democratic process.
The data shared by the poll body shows that the women voter turnout ranged between 81.
59% in Baharagora to 52.
02% in Ranchi.
While Ranchi was at the bottom for men (52.
89%) and overall turnout, the seat with highest male turnout was Kharsawan (78.
25%).
Baharagora was also the seat with highest overall voter turnout at 79.
28%.
That means out of every 100 registered individuals eligible for voting, almost 80 stepped out to vote.
Further, there were five assembly seats where the women voter turnout was higher than men by over 10 percentage points.
In Barkatha seat, women turnout was 72.

That means among every 100 women voters, almost 73 stepped out to vote while in every 100 men only 56 came out.
Similarly in Barhi, women voter turnout was 73.

In Kodarma, the respective turnout was 68.

In Simaria, women turnout was 72% against men’s 60.
64% and in Chatra it was 68% and 56.
64%, respectively.
There were six seats where the voter turnout among men was higher than women – Khunti, Tamar, Ranchi, Jugsalai, Seraikella and Jamshedpur East.

URBAN APATHY
Jharkhand’s capital city Ranchi (52.
46%) and industrial city Jamshedpur were among the seats with lowest voter turnout.
Among the bottom four seats with lowest voter turnout were Rachi, Jamshedpur West (56.
82%), Jamshedpur East (57.
86%) and Hatia (58.
50%) – a suburb area near Ranchi.
On the other hand, one of the most critical seats – with a history of extremist dominance – Garhwa (68.
95%) registered much higher voter turnout.
The second and the last phase of polling the state will be held on November 20 before counting of votes on November 23.
