Shashi Kapoor’s this 1965 blockbuster movie gave 15x return, he charged only Rs 1 lakh

The Hindi film industry has given many unforgettable movies over the years that have been immortalised in our hearts.

One such classic, made under a modest budget but starring some of the biggest names, shocked everyone with its stellar box office collection.

The movie still holds a rare record.

Here we are talking about Jab Jab Phool Khile, which starred iconic actor Shashi Kapoor in the lead role.

According to reports, the movie went on to become the second highest-grossing film of 1965 despite being made on a modest budget.

As per a report by Koimoi, Shashi Kapoor charged just Rs 1 lakh for his role in the movie based on the backdrop of Kashmir.

The total budget of the movie was Rs 20 lakh.

However, its box office success still remains a record.

The Shashi Kapoor and Nanda starrer is the most profitable film on Kashmir so far and it gave 15 times return to the producers compared to its budget.

Upon its release, Jab Jab Phool Khile collected more than Rs 3 crore at the box-office, a 1,400% gain compared to the total budget.

It was also the second biggest grosser at box office after Waqt, which collected nearly Rs 3.

5 crore.

Interesting both the biggest hits of 1965 featured Shashi Kapoor in the lead roles.

Jab Jab Phool Khile was set in the scenic landscape of Kashmir, wherein Shashi Kapoor protrayed the role of a poor Kashmiri youth, who falls in love with a rich tourist, played by Nanda.

The film was helmed by director Suraj Prakash while the story was penned by Brij Katyal.

The movie also featured Agha, Kamal Kapoor and Shammi, among others, in pivotal roles.

The film was produced by Chetan K under the banner of Lime Light productions.

The music was composed by the Kalyanji-Anandji and Taru Dutt did the cinematography.

The film was released in theatres on November 5, 1965.
