Time For Ashwin's Home Coming? Here Are 5 Players CSK Can Target At IPL 2025 Mega Auctions
The IPL mega auctions are around the corner, while the franchises have begun chalking out their strategies.
With several heavyweights in the auction pool, the event in Jeddah is expected to be a blockbuster.
At the same time, eyes will be on Chennai Super Kings, who have retained their former captain and legend MS Dhoni along with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and Matheesha Pathirana.
The 5-time champions are tasked to form a solid unit with Rs 55 crore in their purse at the mega auction.
Let’s have a look at five players CSK can target.
Devon Conway: CSK’s trusted opener from New Zealand was released before the auctions, but it would be a wise decision if the franchise used their only RTM card to have Conway back.
The Kiwi left-hander has played a couple of seasons for CSK, scoring 924 runs in 23 matches.
Conway didn’t play in the 2024 season due to a thumb injury.
Rahul Tripathi: Searching for a No.
3 batter, CSK can go for Rahul Tripathi, who has proved his worth in the past editions for the Sunrisers Hyderabad.
He had his best season in 2022, scoring 413 runs in 14 matches with three fifties.
So far, Tripathi has amassed 2,236 runs in 95 games with 12 fifties and has hit 223 fours and 84 sixes.
Mohammad Shami: CSK will need an out-and-out Indian fast bowler to pair up with Matheesha Pathirana, and Shami could be the one.
The right-arm bowler, who was out of action for an entire year due to injury, was recently released by Gujarat Titans and is set to set the auctions ablaze.
Shami has represented four teams since making his debut in 2013 and has taken 127 wickets in 110 matches at an average of 26.
88.
Ravichandran Ashwin: Is it time for Ashwin to return to his home franchise? It could be a possibility.
The veteran off-spinner has already become a part of the Super Kings family as the head of Super Kings academies and High-Performance Centre.
Nothing would be bigger than witnessing Dhoni, Jadeja and Ashwin together in yellow for the first time since 2015.
Sam Curran: Another homecoming in the cards could be Sam Curran.
Once a lethal arsenal in CSK’s armoury, Curran scalped 22 wickets and scored 242 runs in the 2020 and 2021 seasons.
In 2023, he was bought by Punjab Kings for a whopping sum of INR 18.
5 crore, making him the most expensive player in the league’s history that year.
Curran’s presence could provide a major boost to CSK’s batting in the middle order as well as their death bowling.
